Tribute

Jim Groening, 75 years of age of Mission passed away Saturday December 28, 2013. He was born to the late Jake and Helen Groening. The family moved to Mission in the mid 1940’s where Jim went to the school. In his youth he was involved in the Mission Soap Box Derby for 4 years. He built his own race car. He was so meticulous with every detail the judges thought it was done by a professional. While he was working at a local mill he won the shingle packing contest for BC for speed and accuracy. In his early years he started a tire business that became very successful in the Hatzic area. He branched out to Mission in later years. He was always interested in machinery and how things worked. He was creative and innovative and built many things in his life. He never missed a day of work. He took great pride in being very dependable and reliable. He woke every morning with an enthusiasm for life. He was a loyal and loving husband, and loved his dogs. Left to grieve is his wife Bev, his loyal and faithful companions Bo and Toby; his daughter Loraine, Glen (Lorraine); and their mother Linda; his granddaughter Rebecca and his step grandson Kurtis; step children Kandice (Darryl) & Susan (Bruce); and step grandchildren Laine and Kadie; his sister Lil and brothers Cal, Bill (Carol), Walt (Barb)& John (Maureen); brother-in-law Brian and nieces. A private family service will be held for his loved ones. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. We are so surprised and so sorry to hear of the worlds loss. He meant a lot to everybody he touched. I think we all found him as an inspiration in life. I also never heard him ever say anything bad about anybody. I think he used to just let that just roll off of his back like water off a ducks back. I am sure we are all going to miss him. P.S. Bev, hold your head to the sky for you know where he is, waiting for you. Lots of love Bob and Laura

Would like to give my deepest sympathy to his wife and to the family .
He was the one who got me started in the automotive industry. He was always honest and taught good values in doing business. There are many good stories about his kindness toward people and for that he will be truly missed.
