Gladys Pedrini

July 15, 1920 - October 29, 2012

Tribute

It is with sadness and appreciation for a life well lived, that we announce the passing of Gladys on October 29, 2012 at the Chilliwack General Hospital.

Gladys was the 4th of 7 children born to Florence and Walter Bramley of Carbon, Alberta, and it was in that area she received all her schooling.  As a young lady, her first jobs were cleaning dirt cellars for 25cents each, followed by being a hired girl on farms during seeding and threshing seasons.  The side bonus of the latter was enjoying the singsongs in the evenings with the strumming and singing of Wilf Carter.  At that time, he was just one of the hired men.  In 1943, Gladys married Vic Hawkins and they settled together on their farm in Carbon for 5 years.  Three of those years they were completely hailed out, but mom often spoke of those years as the happiest of times.  Vic became a full-time police magistrate, which required their move to Drumheller and into the house, which Gladys made her home for the next 63 years.  In October of 1948 they had one daughter, Glenda.  Vic passed away in l959 and Gladys began work at the Doctors office, which at that time was above Wades’ Jewelry store.  She later worked many years for Fulton’s Ladies Wear.  In l963 Gladys married Joe Pedrini and they had 35 years together with Joe passing in l998. Upon retiring, Gladys especially enjoyed times spent out of doors, watching the birds and working in her garden, caring for her African violets and taking great pleasure in every variety of handiwork and a hot cup of tea, preferably, shared with friends.  She was still knitting and quilting just before she entered hospital. Gladys was always actively involved in the many groups and activities at St. Maglorie’s Anglican Church, especially the altar guild.  She was a member of the altar guild for 45 years – 35years of those, being its president.

Mom lived for and loved her family, which perhaps helped in making the monumental decision to move to Chilliwack this passed August.  Left to cherish all the good times and missing her are daughter Glenda (David) of Chilliwack, grandson Derek (Veronica) and great grandson Luke of Winnipeg, grand daughter Vicki (Jon) and great grandsons Ethan and Grant Miller of Chilliwack, brother Gordon (Delphine), sister Elsie and sister-in-law Phyllis.

A celebration of life service was held Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11:00a.m. from St. John’s Anglican church in Chilliwack.  A family committal will be held at Queen’s Park cemetery in 2013.

If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any other charitable organization of you choice.
