Bill Kummel

February 22, 1938 – September 14, 2026

William “Alfred” Kummel of the Fraser Valley passed away peacefully on September 14, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Abbotsford on February 22, 1938, to George Kummel (his father born in Germany) and Rosie Kummel (his mother born in Russia), Bill spent nearly his whole life close to the land and the people in his community.

He was happily married to Lynn Kummel for 68 years — His love, his partner, and the person who never left his side. Together they raised their sons, Clayton and Jimmy. He was a proud grandpa to Colby, Connor, and Ryan Kummel.

Bill dairy farmed for most of his working years in the Fraser Valley. Later he kept the community warm by supplying firewood, a job that suited a man who never liked to walk past anyone without a hello or a joke ready to go. That was Bill: neighbourly, quick with a grin, and always willing to stop for a conversation. Bill was well known for always spreading happiness and joy throughout his community.

He will be remembered for that easy warmth — the kind that made ordinary days feel a little lighter.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Bakerview Crematorium & Celebration Centre, 34863 Cemetery Avenue, Mission, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to do what Bill would have done: say hi to someone, share a joke, and keep the people around you warm.
