Siegfred Luyken

Heaven gained another angel in the death and homegoing of Siegfred Hilario “Fred” Luyken, who will be remembered as an incredible husband to “Joyce”, father, grandfather, cousin, and mentor. He died peacefully in Mission Memorial Hospital on January 7, 2020 in Mission, British Columbia at the age of 86

Siegfred is survived by his wife, Joyce Luyken; children, Anthony Luyken (Irene), and Sharon Armstead (Willie Sr); grandchildren Willie Jr. (Shannon) & Taylor Armstead and Aieisha & Nakai Luyken; great grandchildren Lena & Kayson Armstead. He is preceded in death by His son Ricardo Luyken and granddaughter Nakysha Luyken.

Siegfred was born on March 15, 1933 in New Amsterdam, Guyana to William Harold Luyken and Adina (Gracie) Ford. He graduated from Berbice high school and went on to be the youngest teacher at Mckenzie High school, Guyana, South America. He married Joyce Carter, his high school sweetheart in 1956. After moving to Linden, Siegfred began working as a Science teacher, teaching Chemistry and Biology at McKenzie High School, where he then became the principal from 1971 to 1972.  It was in 1972, that the couple emigrated to Canada with their three children, Anthony, Sharon and Ricardo, where Siegfred pursued his love for teaching/education at William Aberhart  High school in Calgary AB.

His children will remember him as a wonderful husband to their mother, loving father who continuously stressed the importance of furthering your education, which lead them to pursue their goals in Teaching/Academia, Healthcare and the Culinary Arts. A funeral is scheduled for 11 AM, January 15, 2020 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 32420 7th ave, Mission, V2V 2B5, with coffee and tea being served after service. Pastor Leslie Kern will officiate the ceremony.

The family would like to thank caregivers, doctors and hospital staff at TRIM (The Residence in Mission), and MMH (Mission Memorial Hospital) for their efforts and care.
