July 9, 1953 - February 10, 2024

Tribute

July 9, 1953 – Feb 10, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sheila Barnewall on Feb 10, 2024 at Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission.  She was 70.

Sheila is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Jim, devoted sons James (Mark), Shaun, and Darcy (Vian); her sister Valerie, and loving nieces Andrea and Sabrina (Gavin), great-nieces and nephews Jalen, Jordan, Jakobe, Addison, and Alexander as well as extended family across the pond.

Born in Montreal, Sheila and Jim moved to Vancouver in the 1970’s and started a new life together. Fulfilling a lifelong dream of owning their own property, Sheila and family moved to rural Maple Ridge in the late 1980s where she loved gardening, tending to the land, and enjoying the simple pleasures in life.   Sheila enjoyed retirement after many years working at CP Rail in Pitt Meadows.

Dearest Sheila … Ron and I are so glad we were able to come down and spend time with you and the family before you past.
We will always remember our water skiing escapades on Allouette Lake. Along with our camping trips . Most of all we were honored to be your maid of honor and best man for your marriage to Jim.
Until we meet again….❤

Relation: She was a dear and much loved long time friend

Dear Jim, James (Mark), Shaun, Darcy (Vian) and other family members, I am so very sorry to learn of Sheila’s passing. She was such an amazing woman and my dear friend for more than 42 years. We met while our children were involved in various activities at Hillview Preschool and Oppenheimer Elementary School. As you know, we spent many times together helping out at Beavers, paper drives, and hot dog days, etc.
She was always willing, ready, and able to pitch in wherever the need arose. Her ready humour always made the task at hand all the more tolerable. We also enjoyed the many hours spent camping with your family at various Thousand Trails resorts.
Sheila and I shared many glad, sad, and sometimes mad times together all these many years.
I miss her dearly; however, I picture her now in my mind’s eye, sitting in your front yard, throwing peanuts to the Jays or sitting on a log, cup of tea in hand, watching the waves roll in at LaConnor.
Until we meet again, dear friend. Love always,

My Auntie was the absolute best, kindest, giving to a fault human! She made sure everyone had what they needed – no matter what & always offered an ear to listen to all that you needed to get off your chest. She shared her home with us for years of Easter & Thanksgiving traditions – spoiled rotten we all were – especially our children – she always went overboard with swimming pools, food, toys, exploring, feeding the chickens & bumper pool always! Her beautiful flowers were everywhere and insisted you come for a bevy and a burger and sit and enjoy nature right at her finger tips. She is missed beyond words!!! We love you Auntie🙏🏻
