October 19, 1944 - November 9, 2012

Tribute

Samuel Abram Hamm – The Lord has called him home.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Samuel Abram Hamm age 68, on Friday, November 9, 2012.  Samuel was born Oct. 19, 1944, to Sara (Wiebe) and David Hamm, in Carrot River,  Saskatchewan.

His children Samuel Earl, Debbie, Leslie and Richard survive him.  Also left to mourn him are 5 grandchildren, adopted Andres Family and beloved companion Patricia Stockbrocks.

Dad was a dutiful father showing his love providing his family with food, housing and warm clothing.

He worked hard all his life earning a living at many different types of work.  He worked with cattle, broke horses and did mechanics, long-distance hauling, welding and logging.  He could repair or fix most anything.  It didn’t stop there though.  He also endeavored to enhance his many skills by taking accounting and tax courses and many follow up educational courses.

A memorial service will be held at Abbotsford Baptist Church, 33655 Busby Road, Abbotsford B.C. at 3:00 pm November 13, 2012.  Please join us for refreshments in the lower hall following the service.

Many thanks to Dr. J. Bond, the nursing staff and Cancer Care Center at Surrey Memorial for their compassion and care.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Abbotsford Baptist Church.

Sam was a wonderful person – always very helpful, knowledgable about so many things, very ready to lend a helping hand. If he saw something that needed doing, he did not wait to be asked to help. He would just do it. We need more people like him in this world.
Rest In Peace Sam. We will really really miss you.

From: Johnny Yuen

It is with great sadness that I must accept Sam’s tragic passing from this world.
My friend of over 23 years, he was always there willing to support all who were
close to him, either in spirit, blood or kinship. He was one of the “good guys”
who was quite often selfless and sincere with his generousity and patience.
For what it’s worth, I knew that life was often unfair and unrewarding to this man.
Yet he ignored these discouraging distractions and kept up a brave optimism and for
that I will always remember him as a real genuine hero.

Though I do feel ashamed for not showing it often enough over the years,
I am proud that you regarded me as one of your friends.
I shall miss you. Rest in final peace my friend.

We were so very sorry to hear that Sam had passed away. He was a very nice man with a loving, giving heart. He provided wonderful support to Pat and her family in very stressful times and always seemed to put others before himself. He will be dearly missed.

From: Pam Shaw

To Sam’s children – our sympathies for your loss. Sam was a bright light who we knew as a fun-loving gentleman whenever he was in Manitoba with our Aunty Patsy. We will remember him and his kindnesses at our family gatherings. He never failed to remind Craig and I that we attended Miles Mac, “just like my daughter”. Our thoughts are with you in this difficult time.

From: Pam Shaw

To Aunty Patsy – we are thinking of you at this challenging time. When you and Sam would come into town together, you were always a happy and welcome duo. This time may pass, but those memories will live on. Love, the Shaws.

From: Bill and Janet Andres

I will always remember Sam for his hearty laugh and they way he interacting with people. Sam had a genuine caring heart and showed it often through kind words and deeds. Sam was very encouraging to me ( Janet ) when I went through my own bought with cancer – with weekly calls to see how I was doing. Sam never missed calling on our birthdays or anniversaries and always looked forward to seeing the family whenever he could. You are greatly missed Sam.

Sam was a remarkable and caring person. I considered it an honor to have worked with Sam. It was the beginning of a friendship that continued even after the workplace. My sincere condolences to Pat and all the family and friends. Our loss is great but we can cherish the wonderful memories forever. The physical part of Sam is gone but his spirit is with us eternally.

From: Elaine Harder (Rogoza)

Even though I haven’t seen Sam in years (unfortunately, we lost contact), I can still hear his laugh. He had one of those genuine hearty laughs that I’ll always remember with fondness. I feel bad that I lost touch with such a genuine, caring man. I where I first met him. It was at a shop steward’s course. He was quiet unless he had something to say. Then we ended up in the same group of friends at the Union campout and we got to know each other a bit more. He was always generous and kind, and always willing to go that extra mile for anyone, if he knew them or not. We will all miss you Sam. Rest in Peace. Always your friend, Elaine Harder
