Richard (Rick) John Nowak
Date of Death: April 30, 2023
Tribute
Richard “Rick” John Nowak passed away peacefully at the age of 60 years.
Rick grew up in Montreal, QC. He graduated from high school, then went to college and received a diploma in Social Science, after which he embarked on a career in the trade of furniture restoration and repair. He then moved to Vancouver, BC and worked as a furniture repair technician at the same company for 25 yrs. He also had his own shop and business, repairing and restoring furniture where he would breathe new life into these beautiful pieces. Rick was highly regarded as one of the best technicians in this specialized occupation. Aside from his employment endeavors, he had many recreational hobbies and passions. He loved hockey, motorcycle riding, camping, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He played hockey throughout high school, college, and for recreation well into his 30’s (one of his dearest possessions were his hockey skates). He was also passionate about watching NHL games, and his favorite team was the Canucks (although I think he was secretly a Montreal Canadians fan ha-ha). He loved his motorcycle; a vintage Virago 1000, which he rebuilt two or three times. He took long motorcycle trips solo across Canada, down to California and Miami, then joined a group of riders, that did group rides all throughout BC and AB. He travelled to Australia and New Zealand as well and had many wild adventures and stories to tell.
Rick enjoyed life and loved to make people laugh. He especially loved to prank his friends (in a good-natured way). If he pranked, you it meant he liked you and you were one of his good friends. He was always very kind, good natured and fun to be around. He also loved animals, especially dogs and he had one very special dog, Angel, who he loved dearly and would still get a tear in his eye looking at her picture years after she passed away.
Sadly, he was stricken with early on-set Alzheimer’s disease and had to retire early from work. He spent the last years of his life in a long-term care facility, but never lost his sense of humour and positive outlook with his visitors and the staff. Rick will be dearly missed by his wife Dorothy and his many friends.
Cremation Urn burial service will be held at 11:30 am Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Maple Ridge Cemetery at 21404 Dewdney Trunk Road, Maple Ridge, BC
