Tribute

Pierina Rosa (Collmann) Belanger

July 9th, 1939 to January 22nd, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pierina Belanger (nee Mazzucchi) .  Pierina passed away quietly on Friday January 22nd, at the age of 81.  She is predeceased by her mother Cesarina, her father Battista, as well as some of her siblings, brothers Alberto (Connie) and Plinio (Lynn) and one of her sisters Bruna (Fidel).  She is survived by her husband Walter, 3 sisters, Elena (Fidel), Giancarla (Hans) and Gisella (Franz) and with numerous nieces and nephews.

Pierina was born July 9, 1939 in a small village in the mountains of Italy, Torre di Santa Maria.  She spent time as a young girl learning multiple languages and ended up speaking 5 different languages fluently. This helped her become involved with the making of the movie “The Sound of Music”, which was filmed near her home.  She was a huge help to the producers as she could easily speak with anyone and was able to translate for them.  They gave her a cameo appearance near the end of the movie as a thank you.

Pierina moved to Canada when she was in her 30’s and settled in the Vancouver area.  She was well known to many as her sense of humour and no nonsense approach to life kept people smiling.  She worked in the restaurant industry in the Richmond area (Richmond Inn) for more than 20 years. She has a love for figs and truly enjoyed the large tree in her back yard.  There was nothing better than the delicious figs that would melt in your mouth and she shared them with all who wanted some.

She met her husband Walter after she moved to the Abbotsford area in 2001 and they married in July of 2007.  Walter and Pierina spent the next 10 years enjoying life and travelling whenever possible.   She will missed by the many who knew her and loved her.

A special thank you to the staff at the Menno Home E2 who took wonderful care of Pierina.  You are very special people and we are very grateful for all you do.

Due to Covid there will not be a service.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local ALZ Society.

Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Every morning you greet me
Small and white, clean and bright

Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss
Bless my homeland forever
