Paul Edouard Latour

December 21, 1961 - September 9, 2020

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts our family must say goodbye to our beloved Paul (Edouard) Latour who passed away September 9, 2020, at the age of 58, in Mission, BC, with his loving partner Shannon and two sons Louis and Wesley by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Paul was born in Kingston, Ontario and was one of eight children, who never had to look far for company. He also had many neighbourhood friends who became lifelong pals whom he cherished.

Paul became a family man after meeting Shannon and her son Ian in Sidney, BC, in 1996 while working at Viking Air. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, who he taught to be proud of their Indigenous heritage, to be loyal, honest and caring, emulating the way Paul lived his life. Paul would tell everyone his biggest accomplishments in his life were Louis and Wesley and he was very proud of Ian. His sons all worked hard, did well in school and were exceptional athletes (football).

Paul loved war history and took his family to Holland in 2019 to retrace the footsteps of his father Raoul, who served in the 23rd Field Company that spearheaded the evacuation of over 2,500 British paratroopers, known as Operation Market Garden, and led to the subsequent liberation of Holland.  He and his family also walked the sands of Juno Beach in Normandy, France, where his father landed in June 1944.

Paul’s love of aircraft translated into a successful 30-year career in the industry, starting at SAIT in 1989 and ending at Cascade Aerospace in 2020. He loved to vacation and his favourite destination with his family was Sproat Lake, BC, where he will be missed by many friends.  His sense of humour and sarcasm will be missed at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 57.

Paul is the dear son of Joan and the late Raoul Latour and cherished brother of Jayne Wilson (Bob), Marilyn Ruttan (Randy), David (Linda), Tom (Diana), Joe (Shirley) and Susan (Randy Hallett) and late sister Rose (Peter Blaind). Paul is lovingly remembered by Shannon’s mother Pat and brother Ron (Cindy) and predeceased by her father (Nev). He also is lovingly remembered by his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and their families.

“God speed, Pauliedoor, as you sail Into the Mystic.”

The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Please share your memories and condolences to the family at www.bakerviewcrematorium.com.

Such a loving tribute for a wonderful man and good friend. We will treasure our time spent with you and yours that will bring smiles most days and , on some days…a tear. For me it is his voice. He had a gentle way of talking that will stay with me and for Ron…well….a deep appreciation for his influence, his helping hands and the late night talks over a few. He was a good friend to our family and we will hold that close. Dear Shannon, Wes, Louis and Ian…you are in our hearts and prayers…so damn sorry for your loss…it is a big one. R.I.P. “OLD” MAN.

Paul was a person I confided in as Manager of Quality. We could always speak in confidence. I knew him in Port Albernie vaguely but very well at Cascade, He was a true professional with great skills and just a basic great guy I would want as a neighbor or even a brother, I will miss you dearly as this really affected me in mind spirit and wonderment of why the great people have to leave me.My dearest condolences to the family. I will see you soon my friend
