Patzie Maxine McDaniel

November 18, 1929 – May 23, 2019

Patzie was a descendant of Chilliwack pioneer families Evans, Wells and Chadsey. She was the youngest of six daughters born to Percy and Marie Evans. Pre-deceased by her parents, husband Raymond McDaniel, infant daughter Rebecca, sisters and brother in laws Lucille Blow (Lyal), Juanita Kiernan (Ken), Phyllis Goldring (John), Vickie Humphreys (Ralph) and Verne Moore (Walt).

She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Whyte (Rick), sons Lee McDaniel (Donna), Grant McDaniel and Michael McDaniel, grandchildren Jeff Whyte (Alison), Kelly Whyte, Sherri-Ann Van Horne (Matt), Patrick McDaniel (Zoe) and Lucas Stadnyck, great-grandchildren Jolene, Nick, Jacob, Haiden, Jordan, Brandon and Dain, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

When a fire destroyed the family home in 1933, they moved into a rustic hunting lodge at the base of Sumas Mountain at BarrowTown. Summers were spent at Cultus Lake. Patzie married Raymond McDaniel December 12, 1945. They had 60 years together until Ray’s passing on April 8, 2006.

The first five years they lived at Vedder Canal where they jointly operated a farm with her parents and sister Verne and her husband Walt Moore. The Royal Wood Golf Course sits there now. The 1948 flood forced them to evacuate to Cultus Lake. In 1954 Ray joined the BC Forest Service. They moved to Langford, back to Chilliwack, Alert Bay, Hope, Tswwassen, Penticton and Aldergrove. Upon retirement, they moved back to Chilliwack and lived up Allan Road for 26 years. Upon Ray’s death, Patzie moved into Sardis before retiring to the Lynnwood.

Patzie liked baking, sewing, and painting. She had showcase flower gardens and was an extraordinary hostess. She loved best going swimming, especially in Hawaii. She was an accomplished poet having one published in the Chilliwack Progress, entitled “My Chilliwack”.

Respecting Patzie’s wishes, there will no service or celebration. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Ray, under the twin hearts at Chilliwack Cemetery.

A poem by Patzie, dated May 5, 1986:

Weep not for me

That I have gone away

Let your sunny tomorrows

Dispel all this day’s sadness and gloom

For me the gauntlet of life is run

And I would sleep

Deep, deep beneath

The fragrant lilies white waxen bloom
