Tribute

WIETZKE Marlene Magdalene Erna “Marly”

November 15, 1957 – May 4, 2022

It is with sadness that we announce that Marly has left us to go on the next step of her journey on May 4th at the age of 64.

Marly leaves behind her cherished “fur babies” Miggy and Sophie.

Sister-in-law Ann, brothers Wolfgang (Lori), Roger, Wilfred, sisters Linda (Tim), Janet (Steve), many nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Marly was predeceased by her father Kurt (1993), mother Adele (2014), and eldest brother Gerhard/Jerry (2021).

Marly spent many years as an administrative assistant, most recently with the Canadian Department of Immigration before leaving the office to pursue what brought her the most joy which was caring for the children of many families.  The energy and enthusiasm she brought to these adventures knew no bounds.

“She was one of a kind, extra special, fantastic, magical human being.” … Lisa and Family, Comox, BC

One of Marly’s passions was music, specifically jazz vocals, which she fulfilled as a jazz singer in the 1980s.

A breast cancer survivor of over 20 years, Marly’s connection with her “boob buddies” created lifelong friendships near and far… Thank you all for your wonderful love of Marly, especially these past months.

“Time with Marly was truly special. She had a way of making everything more special. No restaurant or activity was mundane if you experienced it with the joy and intensity of Marly. Perhaps her most amazing gift was how special she made those around her feel. When you shared a conversation with her, you were heard and connected. Marly had many friends but made each of us feel important and deeply valued. I can truly say I have never met anyone else with her special way of deeply connecting with people and infecting them with her energy and enthusiasm.” … Christine, Seattle, WA

Marly trained as a Soul Midwife (holistic end of life companion) in 2014 in the UK. When she received her diagnosis this past December, she asked the Soul Midwives from her training group to gather around her for support. The group connected daily with Marly through healings, readings and song. A beautiful handcrafted felted tulip shaped urn for Marly’s ashes was also commissioned and posted to Canada as a farewell gift.

“We sat in circle to hold space for her transition on Tuesday evening (May 3rd ) sending all our love across the ocean to Marly and her sister Linda. We are so blessed to have known and supported her. She leaves a legacy of pure love and kindness. She embodied the spirit of Soul Midwifery, embracing her end-of-life journey with a sense of adventure, curiosity, hope, fearlessness and joy …” … Mandy, UK

Many thanks to the staff at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission, B.C. for their compassionate and loving care.

A heartfelt extra special thank you to Marly’s dear friends, Evelyn (and family), Sheila and Scott, and Vivian who provided extra love and care to Marly in her last months. You all are the best!
