Lila Rauh

Lila was born on May 20, 1931 in Thunder Bay, Ontario and passed away suddenly on October 2, 2020 in Mission, BC. She will be remembered as an independent spirit with many talents and accomplishments.

As a young adult, Lila took secretarial training at Pitman Business College and then worked for 16 years at Barton Importing Company. She married the love of her life, Arno Rauh in 1971, and they had a daughter, Karen. Lila was widowed after five years with Arno and held memories of their time together dearly throughout her life.

Lila worked as an administrative and executive assistant at the British Columbia Institute of Technology and later retired from the city life, moving from Vancouver to Mission, BC in 1985. She established a small organic, free range farm, which she maintained until recent years. Lila loved animals and nature and was passionate about protecting the environment. She had a column in the Abbotsford Clearbrook Times and was very involved in community politics, speaking out on many issues.

In addition to writing, Lila was talented in visual arts and had a deep appreciation of music. She was also a great cook. When the time came for her daughter to move out of the house, she wrote and self-published the “Leaving Home Cookbook”, filled with staple recipes for young graduates leaving the nest.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Patrick), and granddaughter, Olivia.
