June Margurite Thoms
March 28, 1933 - January 14, 2026
Tribute
June Thoms passed away on January 14, 2026 in the comfort of her home at the age of 92 years.
June was born in Canterbury, England, and she spent her childhood growing up in the shadow of World War II. Even as a young girl surrounded by hardship and turmoil, she and her family faced those years with courage and determination. She carried those stories with her throughout her life, sharing them as reminders of strength, survival, and hope.
June was a loyal and long-standing member of Girl Guides of Canada, serving with commitment and enthusiasm as both a Leader and Commissioner in Mission. Throughout the years, she found fulfillment in mentoring and supporting countless girls, young women and leaders. She often reminisced with great fondness about the many adventures she shared, the friendships she formed, and the girls and women whose lives intertwined with hers through Guiding.
June dedicated 18 years to the Mission School District, where she found her life’s most meaningful work. In her role supporting children and families with behavioural development, she offered guidance, compassion, and steady encouragement to those who needed it most. Helping others in this way was simply not her profession-it was the very heart of who she was.
June was a faithful and devoted member and Elder at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. She found great joy in the life of the church, actively participating in Vacation Bible Schools, teas, garage sales, meetings, worship services, work parties, social gatherings, committee work, pancake breakfasts, camps, and countless other events. For more than 50 years, her dedication to her church, its community, and the many cherished friendships she formed there was one of her greatest passions and a true reflection of her generous spirit.
In 1965, at a Billy Graham Crusade, June gave her heart to Jesus, joyfully declaring Him as her Lord and Savior. From that moment forward, her life was guided by faith, and she drew strength, courage, and purpose from her relationship with Him. A devoted prayer warrior, she kept journals filled with names, concerns, and triumphs of those she lifted in prayer, never ceasing to intercede for friends, family, and even strangers in need.
June’s favourite Bible verse, John 3:16, perfectly captured her heart and mission: “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” June lived this truth daily, embodying love, compassion, and unwavering hope in all she did. June shone as a light of faith and hope, inspiring all who knew her through her steadfast devotion, heartfelt prayers, and the countless lives she blessed with her kindness and wisdom.
June was predeceased by her husband William, brother Brian, sister Janet and parents Gerald and Violet. June will be lovingly remembered by her children Dawn, Peter, Mary, and Jennifer; grandchildren Chris, Jill, Phil, Sam, Laur and Brendan; and great grandchildren Zachary, Ryen, Jaxon, Ada, Skylar, Carson, and Benjamin and many nieces and nephews.
June will be remembered to many as a great friend, listener, supporter, encourager and prayer warrior.
Her legacy is one of enduring spiritual strength, quiet selflessness, and a boundless love for God and for all those whose lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Union Gospel Mission, BCSPCA or a charity of your choice, in honour of June’s memory and her lifelong dedication to helping others.
Interment will be held at a later date.
