John Gerbrandt
January 31, 1932 - June 21, 2019
Tribute
Johnny passed away peacefully at Abbotsford Regional Hospital on June 21, 2019 with family. He was born January 31, 1932 in Lowe Farm, Manitoba. At age 11 he moved with his family to Mission BC where he resided the rest of his life.
Johnny is survived by his wife Lorraine of 43 years, his son Rick, daughters Dianne (George), Sheryl and Candace (Olivier), grandchildren Derrick, Erin, Christian, Rachael and Xiola, Sister Darlene (Brian), brother in law Ike.
He is predeceased by his parents Cornelius and Katherine, brothers Pete and Jake, Sister Alma, step-sons Richard and Dennis.
At an early age Johnny learned strong work ethics. His brother Pete taught him to drive truck which later led to his logging truck career. He was always up for a challenge, the bigger the logs the better.
In his younger years he enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing and playing hockey. Johnny spent many days on the lake teaching his children to waterski. Other interests were camping, fishing, hunting, HOCKEY, beer, telling the odd tall story and he had quite the sense of humor.
He retired in 1988 from logging truck driving. During retirement if he wasn’t out fishing or watching the Canucks hockey game then he could be found out tinkering in his shop building some new invention.
Johnny struggled the last few years with declining health but always maintained his sense of humor. He is now pain free and at peace.
A celebration of life will be held at Cedar Valley Mennonite Church on Friday June 28 @ 1 pm.
