Tribute

POSTLEWAITE, JAMES (JIM) MACKLIN

October 13, 1948  —  May 5, 2018

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Jim Postlewaite after a brief illness. He is survived by loving wife Merle, adoring daughters Jeanine Postlewaite and Stephanie (Jeffrey) O’Brien and sweet granddaughter Ava; brothers Rob and John, sisters-in-law Jean Kirby and Kim Postlewaite, a niece and nephews, cousins, and many friends and colleagues. He was predeceased by his parents Sam & Betty Postlewaite, in-laws John & Marjorie Kirby and brother-in-law Stephen Kirby.

Jim served in church ministries as an educator for over forty years at Wheaton Bible Church (Illinois), Crescent Heights Baptist Church (Calgary), First Baptist Church (Vancouver) and Peace Portal Alliance Church (Surrey).

He also taught at Christian colleges and seminaries including Berean Bible College now named Foothills Christian College (Calgary), Canadian Bible College (Abbotsford), Northwest Baptist College and Seminary (Langley, BC), Regent College (Vancouver), and Carey Theological College (Vancouver).

Jim worked in para-church organizations such as Youth for Christ (Indiana) and Arrow Leadership Canada (Langley).

He was tickled being a first-time Grandpa to Ava.

Jim was a freelance photographer and loved photography. He also enjoyed reading (lots), writing, nature, trees, baseball and his Chicago White Sox, walking, music, and his family most of all!

He ran the good race — right into the arms of Jesus.

Jim’s Celebration of Life service will be held at Peace Portal Alliance Church, Surrey (152 St & King George Blvd), Saturday, May 12, at 1 PM.

Private family Graveside Burial will take place at Sunnyside Lawn Cemetery, Surrey.

Donations may be made to Peace Portal Alliance Church in Jim’s memory.

Merle and family, I am so sorry to learn of Jim’s brief illness and sudden passing. I have such fond memories of our years together in the Bible Study, with laughter, food, and celebration along with the learning and prayer. Jim was so well respected and such a gentle soul. I’m sure that he was welcomed into Heaven with much love and celebration for a life so well lived. Merle, I hope you feel surrounded by the love and prayers of so many, to help in this most difficult time. With love, Elaine Drysdale

Hello Merle: I only found out about Jim’s passing two weeks ago while visiting Terry Clements. I was surprised & saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. We would occasionally meet on the street or Safeway. Years ago we used to talk Christian Education & where it was trending. I pray you are doing ok Merle & rejoice that Jim loved & served Jesus & is now forever in His presence. A godly man who fought the good fight & finished the race.
