Hubert (Bert) Feldhaus
February 5, 1941 - December 21, 2015
Tribute
Bert Feldhaus passed away on Monday, December 21 2015. He was predeceased by his wife, Jennifer (Batter) Feldhaus, of 47 years in February 2015 and eldest sister Katarina in 2012. He leaves behind 5 siblings, his children and grandchildren. Bert was a family man starting out his career as a carpenter in Germany where he was born in Borken, North Rhine-Westphalia in 1941. In his early years, Bert would help on the family dairy farm, taking care of the cows, ploughing fields and bringing in the hay. After completing his journeyman certificate, he immigrated to Canada following his brother Clemens to Calgary where Bert met Jennifer. He immediately started his family which grew to include many foster children. Bert and Jennifer moved west to an acreage in Port Kells and Bert continued to support his growing family by working his small hobby- farm while teaching with the Coquitlam school district. He managed to find creative ways to support the Industrial education department’s projects for the students and had a caring disposition that sparkled with his honest responses to peoples questions. While working he would always sing or whistle to the tune of the saw blades. One could hear many jingles bellowing out from the workshop. Bert retired from the Maintenance division of School District 43 in 2006 and continued working in his Port Kells workshop after retirement. He always had a job list running in his head of things that had to be done. His grandchildren were the drivers of that list. If any toy, door, bed, toilet or railing was broken, the words “Call Grampa, he can fix it” rang through the air. He continued his service to others by volunteering in the Prison Ministry under the careful guidance of Father Mako Wantabe and Maureen Donegan. He will be missed by all. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Precious Blood Parish Catholic Church in Cloverdale, Surrey, BC
