Tribute

Born at Arlington Beach, north of Regina, Saskatchewan. Hilda lived in a prairie sod house, the third of 10 children. Married at the age of 16 to Charlie, and settled on a homestead in northern Saskatchewan. Pioneered there for twelve years; had five children and buried Melvyn on the homestead before coming to Vancouver in 1937, They owned a 60 acre dairy farm in Ruskin, raised mink and operated a small  shake mill with timber logged on the property. Their son Ronald was lost in the Fraser River in 1947.

Hilda loved gardening, sewing dolls clothes, and was a wonderful cook. Hilda's hands were never idle. She crocheted many beautiful afghans and elaborately embroidered table cloths which she gave to family and friends. every grandchild and many great-grandchildren recieved a treasured blanket. In her little house on Dewdney Trunk Road, many quilts were lovingly laboured over when it was too cold or dark to be in the garden.

Although Hilda suffered many hardships, she remained loving, kind, and compassionate. We had lots of good times together. Hilda died peacefully with her beloved daughter Pearl by her side. Hilda was a gentle soul and she is finally at peace
