Tribute

Gladys Marie Millard (nee Aubert)
1914-2012
Gladys passed away Saturday, September 29th, 2012 at Rotary Hospice in Richmond BC at the age of 98 after a full and happy life.

She was born Gladys Aubert on 15 July 1914 in St. Charles Manitoba, a suburb of Winnipeg, one of 10 children who have all predeceased her.
After marrying Charles Anderson in September 1938 they had a son, Carl in January 1943 and daughter, Maureen in August 1946. As Charles pursued a number of different careers, they lived happily in in Fort William, ON, Winnipeg, MN, Geraldton, ON and finally, Penticton BC where they opened the second A&W in Canada in 1957.
After Charles”s untimely death at the age of only 50 years in May of 1963, Gladys moved to Vancouver.

There she met George Millard and they were married December 17, 1973. They enjoyed 29 years of traveling, golfing, RV adventuring and summers together at Sheridan lake until his death in November 2010.
She continued to live independently and drove her own car until she moved into Gilmore Gardens in March of this year.
She enjoyed the social life and activities there until she suffered a heart attack in August.

Her bright, independent spirit will be missed by her son Carl (Sharon) of Ottawa Ontario, her grandchildren on his side, Laura(Riaz), Eric (Kari), Holly (Chris) and her great grandchildren Rowan, Maya, Maisy and Noah and by her daughter Maureen of Vernon BC, and grandchildren on her side, Dagny (Chris), Marla (Jon), and Camille (Rob).
Many thanks to the wonderful staff of the Richmond Hospital and the Rotary Richmond Hospice for their warm and compassionate care for her in her final weeks and to the staff of Gilmore Gardens for all of they did to make her time there enjoyable.

After cremation, her ashes will be buried at Lakeside Cemetery in Penticton, BC. A memorial mass was celebrated in her name at St Monica”s Roman Catholic Church, Oct 4. Thanks to Father Anthony Bonniface for his many kindnesses.
