Floyd Patterson

December 25, 1938 - January 1, 2020

Tribute

Floyd Aden Patterson of Mission, British Columbia, December 25th, 1938 – January 1st, 2020.  Floyd passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Mission Hospice after a short but brave fight with an aggressive cancer.

Floyd is survived by his children, Deborah (Trevor) Richman, Jay (Kim Steves Greenall) Patterson, Kayla (Rob Lomas) Lomas Patterson and Rebecca (Andrew) Hargreaves and by his grandchildren, Rodd, Indiana, Tarra, Lexy, Sadie and Clara.   He is also survived by his brothers Allen and Richard and sister Linda and various cousins, nephews and nieces.

Floyd is predeceased by his first wife Deeann (nee: Hewitt), his parents Cashman and Alice Patterson, his brother Lloyd and granddaughter Vanessa.

Floyd was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces in his younger years and was stationed in Egypt in 1960 and later served as a driver for Canadian top brass in Washington D.C. After he left the armed forces, he was a business owner in Winnipeg, Manitoba until moving to Prince George, BC, where he was a jail guard with BC Regional Correction Centre.  In the 70s, Floyd ran away with the carnival, taking his family with him when he could.  He was a jack-of-all-trades and a master of all of them during his years in the carnival business and could repair anything from a plug-in cord or light switch to a semi-truck motor or the large generators that ran all the concessions, rides and RVs.  He worked with Wagner Amusements, West Coast Amusements and was affectionately known as “Uncle Floyd” on the grounds and midway of Shooting Star Amusements which was his last spot and gig.

Floyd will lovingly be remembered by his children and grandchildren for being present and more-often-than-not, chauffer to hockey, figure skating and soccer practices. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his colorful language and his willingness to help out his fellow human beings when help was needed, even though he was a crusty old fart (on the outside).  He will be remembered for his big heart and his presence will be missed dearly by all that had the privilege of seeing beyond the crust to the heart of the man.

A Memorial Service is being held at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 265, 26607 Fraser Highway, Saturday, February 8th at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Floyd’s name to the Mission Hospice Society, 32180 Hillcrest Avenue, Mission BC, V2V 1L2.

Floyd’s children wish to acknowledge and greatly thank the nurses and volunteers of the Mission Hospice Society for there kindness and support during the difficult time of saying good-bye to our dad to quick and to soon. You are some of the world’s greatest but unrecognized angels!
