Spud was truly a wonderful human being. Will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She was my second mother and her only son she always wanted. Rest in peace my friend. It was such a pleasure knowing you all these years. Thanks for all the great times, laughs and fabulous parties. Cheers to you Florence.

I feel so blessed to have gotten to know Florence via Facebook, her niece Michelle put us in touch since we shared so much in common. I only wish I could have met her in person before her health began to fade. Thank you Laurie & Teresa for being such devoted daughters & support for each other. I will miss your Mom.

Relation: Florence is my aunt, my mom's sister.
I will always remember how down to earth my aunt was and how she always made room for you in her home and heart. She had a gift for homemaking and hospitality as well as being a person with courage who would throw herself into trying new things and learning new skills . My aunt had a generosity of spirit that would cause her to reach out and offer a card of encouragement or just send you a Christmas card . As kids she didn’t mind us writing with our fingers in the steam on her kitchen windows while she was making soup in the old farmhouse she rented on Sea Island. We helped bottle fed all the fat black lab puppies because the family dog JJ had an enormous litter. She patiently endured numerous phone calls to ask ” are the puppies here yet, did Jay have her puppies?” When my cousins and I were older, we wore a groove in her front lawn by using plastic sheeting to make a slip and slide; most adults would have been furious at the damage to the front lawn and the possible eyesore to the neighbors but Florence was more concerned that we were getting to be kids and having creative fun. Summer fun, freshly made apple butter that came back out from under the house as fast as it was put in there because it was just so darn good we couldn’t get enough of it, family camping trips with my cousins, and love of horses, being a teenage secret smoker and my aunt slipping me smokes now and then because she remembered being a teenager – lots of memories . I remember one year giving her a card for her birthday that listed a bunch of positive traits that aunts are known for and one of them was that ” Aunts are comfy”. We both laughed because it was funny AND true. My aunt made you feel comfortable and welcome and I am grieved she is gone . We will miss you auntie Florence. So many more things I could say here but this will have to do. I know my mom loved you dearly and we do too.

I worked with Flo for 15 years and have many great memories both professionally and personally. Simply put, she was my friend. Even when the work was stressful and difficult, she could always be counted on to inject some much needed fun into the work. Her giggle was infectious and her humour was never at the expense of anyone else. She knew how to laugh at herself. Even though our paths didn’t cross often in recent years will miss her.

Florence was a bright, creative, imaginative, very clever lady. She was a devoted, selfless mother, who worked to keep her daughters and home together under very difficult circumstances. Dedication, and great love for her family was paramount to her. She will be missed by many and I personally am sad that her and I did not get the opportunity to find each other sooner. Be brave, look up, as your Mother set an example of perserverance, and resourcefulness that you now can take up as well. Love never dies. Memories live on and love lives on with them. She will always be near because of these wonderful memories.
