Doris Lillian Cochrane (Croswell)

February 15, 1935 - October 14, 2020

Tribute

Doris Lillian Cochrane  (Andrie) (nee Croswell) passed away peacefully at the age of 85 at Abbotsford, British Columbia, on the 14th day of October, 2020, with her children at her side.

She was predeceased by her parents: Eva Devee Croswell (nee Kipling), and William Ernest Croswell, grandparents: Rosa May Kipling (nee Heitz), and Robert Thompson Kipling; grandson Kristopher Andrie, sister Leah Lytle (nee Sopow), and ex-husband Eli Andrie.

She is survived by her children: Mark Andrie, Dawna (Peer), Douglas Andrie, Michelle (Chris) Laxton, Grandchildren: Cody, Jaimee (Alex) Van Volsen, Florentin,Patricia (Dylan) Niezen, Jenny-Lynne (Colin) East, 7 great grandchildren, and brother Fred Sopow.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan on February 15, 1935, Doris was raised on a 160-acre homestead near Silver Park, Saskatchewan, where she attended Mossdale Elementary School – a small one room school.  In 1944, they moved into Weekes, Saskatchewan, where her mother Eva, opened and ran a small café – specialising in her amazing selection of homemade pies.  By 1948, they moved to Nipawin, Saskatchewan, where they would live until Doris graduated from Nipawin Composite High School in 1953. Doris often proudly reminisced about her high school curling team winning the bonspiel in 1949.  Upon completion of high school, she immediately moved to Regina to work as a secretary for COOP Insurance.  In 1955, Doris moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to work as a legal secretary, for Rose, Johnson & Moore, Barristers and Solicitors, until Mark, her first child was born in 1957. As well, in the early 1960’s she worked as a secretary at Robin Hood Flour, in Moose Jaw.  Doris often recalled the enjoyment of raising her goats, sharing many great times with her cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Doris and Eli raised 4 children in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, until their move to a farm in rural Abbotsford (Sumas Prairie), British Columbia in the autumn of 1967, where the kids attended Arnold Elementary School.

After a few years on the farm, the family moved to Abbotsford, where Doris worked as a Legal Secretary for Beaubier & Company, and later, many years with Janzen, Anderson & Co.  Doris was known for impeccable spelling and lightning-fast typing!  She frustrated the children at Christmas time, when she would make long lists of gifts for each child, encrypted in Pittman Shorthand!

Doris was known for canning anything worth canning: chicken, peaches, pears, beans, cherries, etc etc.  She also loved crocheting for many years, selling many of her items at local markets.

Doris will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.

Interment will be in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, alongside her mother.

Thinking of you today and sending my deepest sympathy. So many special memories of times spent with Doris and Aunt Eva in Moose Jaw. I will always remember as a little girl watching your Mom do her hair up in pin curls, then brush it out into a Poodle style, then apply the perfect red lips! Doris always looked very put together. Your Mom had her own special way of laughing that I will not forget! Loved her, and love to you all!
