Desmond Hutchings Barrett
March 12, 1941 – May 8, 2025
Desmond Hutchings Barrett passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, at the age of 84 in Port Moody, British Columbia. Born on March 12, 1941, in Vancouver, Desmond lived a life marked by adventure, friendship, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
Des shared 51 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Virginia. They built a life defined by warmth, generosity and a shared passion for travel. Together, they raised two daughters, Sandra (David) and Shelley (Marc), and built a close-knit family. He was a proud grandfather to Paul and Avery.
Des found joy in life’s simple pleasures: games, shared laughs, and time with loved ones. A passionate sportsman, he forged lasting friendships through Meraloma football and cherished every moment on and off the field. Some of his happiest times were at the family place in Garden Bay, where coffee and evening drinks on the deck, surrounded by those he loved, perfectly reflected his warm and easygoing spirit.
A a celebration of life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Des’ memory may be made to BC Children’s Hospital.
Raise a glass on the deck, tell a good story, and remember Des with a smile. He would’ve loved that.

We will miss our beloved cousin. We looked forward to our visits at Summer gatherings and December parties and always looked forward to his travel stories. He was a favourite of ours. Sincere condolences to Des’ dearly loved family.
