Dave was my band-mate and my friend. He’d come to practice and play the bass as if he played for one of our punk rock idols, Rancid. He was up and down that thing like he was playing a lead guitar solo… but on a bass! Sometimes I’d be pleading with him to play like a normal bassist and sometimes he’d humour me. He was a creative song writer and had awesome riffs he had dreamed up ready for practice. Oftentimes that’s how our songs where born. Something that really stood out for me was his leadership. Dave saw the hypocrisies of our culture and we were trying to change the world with our music. We’d take it so seriously but Dave kept us laughing and kept it fun. When he said something to one of us it was always the positive stuff. He wouldn’t criticize us. He said to me “man I love your voice when you’re ten songs in” to suggest I sing more raspy. I loved our time we spent in the band and I’m grateful he encouraged me to join. I’m pretty sure he had a hand in getting me in too. Dave was always in for sincere fun with friends and had an incredibly kind heart. I miss him dearly.
