Tribute

Carol passed away on Saturday September 1 2018 while on the Palliative Care Ward at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

From her birth in Mission on Feb 6 1951 to her passing Saturday she cherished her family and friends. Carol was born in Mission and raised in Steelhead. She was the 4^th child of 8 siblings. She was predeceased by Bill, Mickey, Rick and Joan and sister in law Linda. She was survived by Linda, Diane and Keith. In her early years she spent much of her time helping her mom with the raising of her siblings.

At 16 years old, Carol married Jim Penner. She explored many different areas on where to live including Okanagan and Alberta before she came back and settle in Abbotsford. In Abbotsford is where she raised her two daughters Barb (Shayne) and Jody (Justin). This is also where she had a hand in raising her “adopted” children Jay, Lorynda and Missy.

She loved her grandchildren so much. There was Izzy from Jody and Justin. Corey, Samantha, and Brianna from Barbs previous relationship with Don, and Trent, Tate, Tayah, and Tessa from Barbs current relationship with Shayne.

Carols home in Abbotsford became a very popular place where she shared so much love with her many nieces and nephews and their many friends. It was always a place people knew they could come to.

After the birth of Jody, Carol went back to school and got her accounting certificate. She successfully managed an office for many years but her greatest accomplishment was sharing her love with others. In recent years she had a great friendship with Steve Stacey and Shared her love with his family too.

Carol decided that the only services that would be held was a celebration of life that she wanted to be at. She firmly believed that if others got to say stories about her she wanted to say stories about them too. The Palliative Care team were so wonderful that when it was decided that it wasn’t in her best interest health wise to leave the hospital, they went well above and beyond their duties and helped arrange everything so her celebration was the best it could be. It was everything she wanted and even better.

We want to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone that came in and continuously visited with mom, making everyday a great one. She always had the most visitors in each day and had the best food brought in for her too. Not many people can say they had steak while in the hospital. Whether it was friends (Linda, Jan, Sue) or the many nieces and nephews she had such a steady stream of visitors and we thank you. A special thank you to Diane, Mandy, and Lori for alternating their nights so that mom was never alone in those last 3 weeks.

Carol’s Celebration of life was held on Aug 11 at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital.

In Lieu of donations or flowers, moms wish was for everyone to quit smoking. So please quit or encourage others around you to quit so your loved ones don’t receive the same diagnosis.
